"Yes Minister" Aquisitive Open Art Competition
At 7pm on Friday 24th April, 2009 the 'Yes Minister' Competition exhibition at Gallery 419 was officially opened by Brisbane's Lady Mayoress Lisa Newman. The winner of the competition was Irene McKean and her winning entry was in oil titled 'The Studio'.
Irene received the winners certificate but also a cheque for $3000.00 for her work. As the competition was acquisitive the painting will be retained by the Royal Queensland Art Society.
The five highly commended winners announced on the night were Max Butler with an oil titled 'My Country 152', Glen Gillard with an oil titled 'Old Spring Hill', Frances Rowland Wregg with an oil/acrylic titled 'Shade Seeker', Helen Smerdon with an oil titled 'Jaws Buckets & Attachments' and Terry Wilkinson with an entry in pastel titled ' Sun Up & Cobwebs'.
Congratulations to the winner, highly commendeds and the fifty finalists and to all those that submitted their works for a job well done.
Friday 5th May, 2009 was the opening night for showcasing the Winning Entry, five Highly Commended entries and fifty finalists works at the Parliament Annexe Alice Street Brisbane. The evening was an invitational social function and officially opened by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly & Member for Logan the Honourable John Mickel. The function was attended by over 70 guests.
The Peoples Choice Winner was annonced by John Mickel and the winning work was 'Bushland' in pastel by Frances McKennariey.
